can any one help me id the trans that come in the blt , by the tag on it , i have 4 or 5 lesabre trans , i know 2 are blt but i donot remember the ones they are , all i have need rebuilt , but i was going to sell them for scarp , and was going to keep the blt ones , because of the gear ratio , please help , thanks buick-enuf

Take a look at this 97 GS tranny tag. If you notice the code 7HKB - the 7 stands for the year. Your tag should also denote the year.

for the 1987 & 1988 model years that one digit ( 7 or 8 ) also identifies the year. The three letter combo identifies the ratio.

Not sure what the 083 stamping is for. I know in the case of the 97 GS tranny posted above, the 7HKB stands for a 3.29 gear ratio. The HKB part is considered the 'broadcast code'.

well i was looking in my 89 buick service manual and it had it for the 89s trans id , and it is 9ajh , i am going to jack up my 88 blt in the morning and get the id off it i know it has a blt trans , and i will post it here , mabe someone could move this to mantenance ? or faq ? wiki ? thanks for all the help , buick-enuf :cheers:

I was able to read my ID tag using a mirror and flashlight,
bend over the right side of vehicle and reach down with mirror.
The letters on my 88 are BTH and I have the 2.97 ratio.
BTH is the model the H stands for 440-T4. by the way, I have a Park Ave. 1989,
does your manual tell you what a 9WRH ratio is?

thanks shawn , the maunal has a 9bwh ,but not the one you have , the 9bwh is a 3.33 , shawn thats the only one that had a w in it , sorry , now we have all 3 , 87 is 7fjh , 88 is 8bth , 89 is 9ajh , thanks to everyone , :cheers:
