NASCAR LeSabres

After watching the Daytona 500, I'm missing the days that Buick was in the mix, and the 2 years that the aerodynamic LeSabre was doing the deal. Bobby Allison single handedly brought out the use of the restrictor plate after blowing a tire and tearing down the catch fence at Talladega.

Re: new or used trans fluid?

I've used Type F in my older Buicks, shifts better. Many GN guys are doing the same.

Re: Four Doors Galore

It used to have a 260, this is the third engine in it, plus I have a year and a half of momentary tinkering on it, carb, dist, blocked EGR, valve covers, tuning, rear end dope change, etc. Could have bought rebuilt 260 years ago for cheap, you know they made a 260 diesel, right? Like to have block, c...

Re: Four Doors Galore

What was I thinking when I first posted this? Trying to get back into V6's, they're getting scarce. Not trying to get off track here but not concentrating on my G-bodies now. The '78 Cutlass that I've rescued from the junkyard needs the brakes gone over and should be about ready to run. Found out it...

Re: Four Doors Galore

Really, I like the adjustabilly of a non-computer engine, and if it has any problems, I'll know it's not a sensor or computer problem.Just a little challenge I've always wanted to try.

Four Doors Galore

How the automotive landscape changes in a decade. Used to see a few H-body coupes around but no more, probably a couple years since a two door sighting. Many sedans still kicking, though, especially late eighties and early '90's, maybe they were purchased by older folk who drove them less and had be...

Re: Your car.

Forgot about the two Bonnevilles I had, son still has the '97 w/230k miles, drives 80 mph plus in his National Guard uniform when going to drill or training, cops let him go with a warning.

Re: You've heard the term "cop-baiting"? How about the opposite?

I've almost forgotten about this, but many times I believe that I was overlooked doing some risky driving because my ride was nearly the same blue as the Georgia State Patrol vehicles, even though they also used silver on some panels. Back in the day, having the same car (white '67 442) as the wild ...

Re: 1989 audible knock help

Interesting. I must say, looks like your doing A1 mechanic work. Does your oil pump gauge work? What does it show at idle after it has warmed up? Actually a 180 degree thermostat will keep the oil from thinning out as much (as well as other benefits). Also, I prefer using a straight 30 wt per GSCA n...

Re: 1989 audible knock help

Yes, use petroleum jelly around the gears with no air pockets,in all the passages, too. Make sure it's set to slide on the crankshaft so you don't have to turn it and lose your prime.

Re: 1989 audible knock help

Thought it was the balancer for sure until I saw the oil pan, which could still be bad, but dude, looks like you have a major coolant leak(head gasket, intake, etc.)could have made the oil pump chatter. Be sure and pack the oil pump with vaseline, and I would use cheap oil if you plan to run the eng...

Re: Truth about oil and flat tappet engines

Read an article that modern oils have less zinc compounds that aren't enough protection for FT valvetrains. I like to use 2/3rd HD 30 wt oil since my engines have high miles and supposedly less bearing clearances with 1/3rd 15-40 wt diesel oil but I insist that they are the same brand oil. I bought ...
